Nominator's project description
| Professor Bunster has been the most prominent figure in theoretical physics in South America over the past forty years. With the foundation of the "Centro de Estudios Científicos" in Valdivia he has been able to place his country (Chile) in a leading and unique position in the region. He is honoured for his numerous pioneering achievements in theoretical and mathematical physics, most notably the Hamiltonian formulation of gauge systems, Einstein's General Relativity and the theory of black holes. His contributions in these areas have gained him worldwide recognition. In Germany, Professor Bunster will continue his investigations on the Principle of Duality. |
